How the MLS playoffs work
- Nine teams from each conference (East and West) make the playoffs. Standings use points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw.
- Seeds 8 and 9 meet in a one-game Wild Card match; the winner faces the 1 seed.
- Round One is a best-of-three series (1 vs 8/9, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5); drawn games go straight to penalties. After that, each round is a single game: Conference Semifinals, Conference Finals and MLS Cup.
- The higher seed hosts. The team with the most points overall wins the Supporters’ Shield.

How the odds work
The odds come from playing out the rest of the season thousands of times. Each simulated game is decided by the two teams’ records so far, pulled toward average early in the season, and teams that finish level are separated with the league’s official tiebreakers.
